Intrepid net surfer Claudia Kehl discovered this film workshop site with some interesting links about the screenwriter and the filming of "Book of the Stars," the Mary Stuart Masterson independent film that was due to be released in November. Remember that we warned you that these independent films sometimes get limited release, so pay close attention to the movie listings in your local newspapers. Also, be alert for a video release, that could take place shortly after we celebrate the coming of the Year 2000.

We screened the CBS movie twice, once in a hotel in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, while John Travolta was shooting scenes from an upcoming movie a few miles away, and again when I got home and tested a video recording. The review is found by clicking on the link below:
Just a reminder that this Mary Stuart Masterson independent film, which also stars Jena Malone and D.B. Sweeney, is due to be released sometime this month. So, in addition to the CBS movie, "Black and Blue," to be shown on November 17th, we also have a big screen premiere for Thanksgiving month as well. Keep an eye on your local newspaper listings, but remember that independent films usually get limited release.
Ms. Kehl was exploring the web the other night and discovered that Mary Stuart Masterson had appeared on "Politically Incorrect" earlier this week. The website from which the Tavern developes each month's TV schedule, TV NOW, did not list MSM's appearance on the late night ABC talk show. Claudia did find a link to the transcript of Ms. Masterson's appearance, and it is found below:

While visiting the FANSITES site, I stumbled onto this link to another talking book, WHEN VENUS FELL, for which Ms. Masterson provided her talents to the voice-over narration. Amazon.com has a page devoted to this talking book.
Claudia Kehl, our vigilant "Swiss Ms." and dedicated Mary Stuart Masterson fan, surfed the web and found a great preview page for the upcoming CBS movie-for-television, starring Mary Stuart Masterson, "Black and Blue," the fact-based story of a mother on the run from an abusive husband. The movie will be shown on all CBS affiliated stations on NOVEMBER 17, 1999.
Mari Garcia, of San Francisco State University, keeps us updated on Mary Stu news in VARIETY and other film and television industry journals. Ms. Masterson has signed a development deal with CBS to both star in and direct some movies for television for the network. Included in the deal will be November's CBS movie, "Black and Blue," based on the book by Anna Quindlen, and a science fiction trilogy. Ms. Masterson will direct one of the three stories in the sci-fi trilogy.

Mari Garcia of San Francisco State University is rapidly becoming the Tavern's VARIETY correspondent. Ms. Garcia found an article in VARIETY by reporter Cynthia Littleton about Mary Stuart Masterson being picked to play the main role in the upcoming CBS Television Network movie "Black and Blue." The film will be based on the Anna Quindlen novel of the same title, and concerns a mother who flees from an abusive husband, taking her 10-year-old son with her. Anthony LaPaglia will portray an NYPD detective who tracks Ms. Masterson's character.
